#EndSARS Protest Continues as Sanwo-Olu Declares 24Hr Curfew

The #EndSARS protesters have continued their protest today, Tuesday in various parts of Lagos State despite the 24-hour curfew imposed on the state by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The imposed 24-hour curfew on the state takes effect by 4pm today.

CityMirrorNews correspondent visited some of the major protest locations in Alimosho, Alausa, Ikeja, and Oshodi among others. The protesters appeared undeterred by the curfew.

It is not clear whether the protesters would continue the protest during or after the curfew ending by 4pm tomorrow, Wednesday.

Earlier in a statement, the governor lamented that the protests against police brutality and extrajudicial killings had become violent.

He said, “I have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society. Lives and limbs have been lost as criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our state.

“As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement #ENDSARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state.

“I, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4pm today, 20th October, 2020. Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets.”

The #EndSARS protests have continued in various parts of the country with a few incidents of vandalisation of public properties recorded in states like Lagos, Edo and the FCT, Abuja.

The youths are demanding for an end to police brutality and urgent reform of the security architecture and an end to bad governance.
