COVID – 19: Lalong Flags-Off Decontamination Exercise in Plateau State

Plateau State Governor, Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong today, Friday flagged-off the fumigation of the state in its efforts at fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
The flag-off exercise which took place at the popular Terminus Roundabout in Jos, Plateau State capital saw the governor personally driven the motorised sprayer to fumigate the environment.
In his speech, the governor said that the state has taken several steps aimed at ensuring that the disease does not come into the state.
Lalong said, “Although no case has been recorded yet in Plateau state as at today, we cannot relax. We have to remain vigilant and proactive.
“That is why we announced a total lockdown of the state, which began some hours ago.
“During this period, the entire state will be fumigated. (All Public places such as markets, streets, office premises among others will be fumigated)”.
Lalong appealed for the patience and understanding of citizens urging Christian brothers and sisters to use the solemn Easter Friday to cry unto God to show mercy and remove the pandemic.
While appreciating religious, political, and community leaders and their followers for their cooperation, he appealed to all citizens to abide by the lockdown directive promising that the government would soon “roll out palliative measures to assist the weak and vulnerable amongst us”.
In his address, the Commissioner for environment, Idi Usman said that the exercise was necessary to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus in the state. He enjoined residents to cooperate with the government while the exercise lasted.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Agricultural Services Training Centre, ASTC, the agency saddled with the responsibility of the fumigation said that the exercise would help to get rid of viruses, pests, and bacterias saying that the exercise would last for a month cutting across all the Local Government Areas in the state.
