Osun Deputy Chief Whip Awards Scholarship To 20 Indigent Students
The Deputy Chief Whip of Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi has awarded scholarships to 20 students in Government Technical College Iwo.
Ogunkanmi who represents Ayedire state constituency in the parliament had earlier expressed his desire to improve vocational education in his constituency in his bid to eradicate poverty in the area.
Ogunkami emphasized the importance of vocational education in society saying vocational education helps people to perform better in their chosen Profession adding that it would wafford them opportunity to acquire great learning experience.
“Vocational education is a training that equips students with practical experience and technical skills in a specific type of field that is capable of contributing to the country’s economy and make one self reliant.
He urged government to focus on vocational education, noted that investors will get attracted to employees who already have something to bring to the table.
Speaking, the Principal Mrs Samson Adetola commended Hon.Ogunkanmi for the positive impact on the life of the students.
Mrs Adetola added the scholarship is a great opportunity for the students as vocation schools provide room for those who are sure of which career path to choose in the society.
She further explained that some students are struggling to pay their school fees as many of them have financial predicament in their family
She urged the students to see opportunity of the scholarship as best to acquire the vocational skills they needed while in school just as he appealed to them not to missuse it saying the deputy Chief Whip has secured a good future for them.
However, she pleaded to government for their intervention on the school, saying most of the building need to be renovated in order to enhance good learning environment for the students.
Raheem Olalekan and Ajayi Ridwanullahwho who are both studying electrical installation while speaking on behalf of others appreciated the lawmaker for his kind gesture.
The duo said many teenagers due to financial constraints have killed their career choices at secondary school levels saying the right career choice is an important step regardless of what kind of person you are.
