Osun Chief Whip, Olatunji Tasks Teachers On Dedication, Commitment
Hon Tunde Olatunji, the Chief Whip of Osun State House of Assembly, has urged teachers in the state’s Public Secondary Schools to be more dedicated and commited, so as to be able to compliment the effort of the governmet in its bid to achieve set objectives in the sector.
Olatunji disclosed this on Friday while addressing students and teachers at Community Middle School, Ota Efun, Osogbo , Osun State capital before he taught grade 9, JSS3 students of the school.
The Osun Assembly Chief Whip said that all hands must be on deck to ensure that affordable and qualitative education, which is one of the cardinal programmes of this administration is achieved.
CityMirrorNews recalls that Olatunji had on September 23, 2019 unveiled his teaching plan at Anglican Middle School, Edunabon, volunteered to teach mathematics and civic education in public middle schools.
The lawmaker said he would teach the two subjects for 2019/2020 academic session.
According to him, the desire to take up the teaching job is aimed at complementing teachers’ efforts and using his status to stimulate the students’ interest in the two “all-important subjects.”
Olatunji said: “It was another very impactful and fulfilling time as ‘Tunde Goes to Teach at the Community Middle School, Ota Efun on Friday, 13th of March, 2020.
“We had a great inspirational talk session between 7:30 and 8:00AM on the assembly ground, followed by a 15-minutes interaction with my fellow teachers, where i appreciated them for the great job they are doing and charged them to do more. I started my teaching for the day with grade 9 (JSS 3) students and I closed at about 12noon.
“The joy and excitement on the faces of my students while they learn is one of the most inspiring moments one can ever wished for.
“To the world, I may just be a teacher, but to my students, I am their hero”
“This voluntary teaching is an effort on my part to drive quality and functional education by imparting knowledge and skills that will make the students be useful to society.
The Economic and Financial expert said “My choice of mathematics and civic education is deliberate: my choice of Mathematics to stimulate the interest of young ones in this all-important subject often tagged as difficult.
“Civic Education, to me, will impact on the students, the sense of national duty, obligation, patriotism, respect for human rights and ethics.
“These are unarguable, sine qua non to national renaissance and development of any state,” he said.
The lawmaker said his other educational programs to assist many young talents in academics and sports across Osun state in the last four years had started yielding results,“ he said.
