Nigeria Railway Corporation Debunks Bandits’ Attack On Train
The Corporation has denied, the trending report of an attack on a Kaduna-Abuja bound train at Kateri village in Kaduna.
Commuters using the rail service from Kaduna -Abuja can now have a sigh of relief as the Nigeria Railway Corporation has assured of their safety.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Mr. Niyi Ali, on Thursday, stated that the train was not attacked.
Ali told CityMirrorNews that the train was only stoned by youths around the area.
The spokesman revealed that sometimes, community people or miscreants who hang around the community, often throw stones at moving trains.
He revealed that the Corporation had on many occasions sensitized the people on the need to stop such acts.
A passenger on the train also corroborated the story that under-aged bystanders close to villages where there are substations must have thrown the stone(s).
He confirmed that the train was close to Jere junction when they heard the bang on the window.
It could be recalled that it was earlier reported that the Kaduna -Abuja bound train was attacked in Kateri, a village in Chikun local government Area of Kaduna State.
One of the staff in Kaduna who also spoke to our Correspondent disclosed that on many occasions, the corporation has had to change window glasses of the train as a result of stoning by underage bystanders in villages or rail crossing.
“This was the situation that some people termed to be an attack by gunmen”, he said.
‘’We have been warning, and sensitizing underaged children in most of these areas to desist from throwing pebbles at the train whenever they come out to have a view of a passing train”.
