Lions Clubs Sensitise Osun Populace On Diabetes, Flood
Lions clubs in Osun state on Saturday embarked on an awareness campaign across Ede town sensitising residents of the ancient town on the dangers of diabetes diseases.
The 7km walk which started at the state hospital in the town ended at the Federal Polytechnic Ede, where students were enlightened on the need to go for diabetes screening to know their status.
Earlier before the commencement of the awareness walk, tagged walk to live, the clubs conducted blood sugar screening for some of the participants, patients and visitors at the hospital.
The first Vice District Governor of the club, Lion Ademola Adesoye while addressing members of the community, stressed the need for everyone to go blood sugar screening periodically to avoid the death due to the cronic diabetes.
Similarly, the former President of New Era Lions club, Osogbo Oluomo Sunday Akere has called on the teeming populace to stop dumping refuse on waterways to avoid incident of flood.
The Nigeria Metrological Agency has warned that many states in the country is prone to flood due to rain pattern of the season, calling on relevant stakeholders to take proper measures against the menace.
He disclosed this when the club join shop owners at Alekuwodo market in the state capital to embark on environment sanitation and clearing of waterways close to the marker.
Akere stressed the need for traders in the market to steer clear dumping their refuse in the stream during rain, saying such refuse block waterways, causing flood.
“When you dump refuse in the stream during rain believing you dispose it easily, you should understand that you are gradually creating the necessary conditions for flood, thereby causing disaster to many people”.
“We should steer clear of acts that could result to problems for others, hence, we should dispose our refuse in the proper disposal vehicles provided by the government”, he stated
