Six South West Governors Assure Residents On Insecurity

Six Governors in the South Western Part of the country met on Tuesday in Ibadan where they assured residents of the zone that the incidents of insecurity in the area would soon be completely forgotten as it is being seriously addressed
The state’s Chief Executives are Governors Oluseyi Makinde ,Rotimi Akeredolu SAN,Babajide Sanwoolu ,Gboyega Oyetola,and Dapo Abiodun
At the stakeholders Security Summit tagged “Focus on Western Nigeria” are top security officers who included the Inspector General of Police represented by DIG Sola Lakanu ,AIG Zone 11,Mr Adeleye Oyebade,the Commissioners of Police in Oyo,Sina Olukolu and his counterparts in Osun and Ondo states as well as para- military officers.
Governor Makinde of Oyo state in his welcome address, declared that all the governors at the summit were uncompromisingly committed to the peace and stability in the zone being the Chief Security officers in their various states.
Makinde said that those who voted them into power expected them to protect their lives and properties adding that they would not let the people down
The Governor reiterated the need to encourage community policing pointing out that the governors have no controlling power over police in their states adding that is why many people are advocating state police.
The Chairman of South West Governors Forum,Olusegun Akeredolu declared that the governors would protect at all costs,the safety and general interests of their people as they have no need be in government if they cannot do that.
He disclosed that in Ondo state,several logistics have been put in place to checkmate crime and criminalities and advised the residents to be security conscious by reporting suspected criminals to the security agents.
The Governor described the Yoruba people as unique and sophisticated stressing that they realised the need to drop the toga of political differences and jointly tackle the menace of criminals who suddenly appeared in their zone.
Akeredolu stressed the need for all the security agents and stake holders to collaborate with one another and map out strategies in order to achieve a common goal which was restoring peace in the zone.
Other governors spoke in the same vein with an assurance that the activities of kidnappers and other criminals harbouring in the zone would be nipped in the bud.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police who represented the IG called for more collaboration between the governors and the Police adding that with that synergy ,crimes and criminalities would be reduced to the barest minimum.
Also present at the two day summit which ends on Wednesday are traditional rulers ,Chairmen of Cattle Breeders Miyetti Allah in the five States,members of Oodua Progressives Congress (OPC) led by Chief Gani Adams and leaders of Agbekoya.
