A Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, has ordered the remand of a 21-year-old labourer, Pius Odu, arraigned for robbing a lady of her cell phone, money and bag.

The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, ordered that he should be remanded in prison, as he admitted committing the offence.

Maiwada adjourned the case until Feb. 5, for more facts of the case and sentencing.

The prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that one Soyemi Shalewa, of Keffi, Nasarawa State, reported the incident at the Utako Police Station, Abuja on Jan. 19.

According to Ukagha, the complainant, on same date, after closing from work at Jabi, in Abuja, boarded a taxi to Berger Roundabout.

She met three other ‘passengers’ in the car, who forcefully collected her cell phone and money and later abandoned her near Chida Hotel, Abuja.

Ukagha added that while the complainant was trying to locate her church for assistance, they attacked her again and collected her bag.

The defendant, Odu, was, however, caught in the process.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, Odu confessed to the crime and begged for mercy.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
