‘You Raise False Alarm’, Osun APC Replies PDP
The All Progressives Congress in Osun state has described as ‘arrant nonsense’ the allegation made by the PDP chairman in the state, Soji Adagunodo that the APC was planning violence and mass arrest of PDP officials and supporters.
The PDP leader had accused APC of conniving with the police and judiciary to implement the said plans of intimidation, mass arrest and detention of PDP members and supporters in a bid to weaken them ahead of 2019 general elections.
But in a swift reaction from the party secretariat in a statement signed by its spokesman, Kunle Oyatomi, the APC stated that ‘these allegations are untrue, irresponsible and without any evidence whatsoever’.
The APC spokesman said that ‘it is not in the character of the party to resort to violence when engaging in political activity.
The party said : “On the contrary, the PDP had been notorious for violence, murder and harassment of political opponents, right from the time it was illegitimately in power from 2003 to 2010”
“It is because of this notoriety that they easily get into trouble with the police. Even when they lost the power that they stole, they did not stop their violent behaviour.”
“But right from the time that Rauf Aregbesola came to power, Osun has been peaceful. The APC recognised and still recognises that peace is a condition precedent to development and it has maintained that stance up till today.”
“Those PDP people who have issues with the police must have behaved in the manner that threatened the peace of the Ila and other areas of the state. Even the new governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has admonished citizens of the state to maintain peace in whatever they are doing. “
“The party leader cannot be preaching peace and at the same time planning violence and harassment of its own people, albeit in the opposition party. Finally, the APC urged Adagunodo and his officials to grow up, and act as mature, responsible politicians, not rabble trousers and scare mongers.”
