2019 General: Crisis Looms In Osun APC Over Selection Of Candidate
It has not been a good time for the ruling All Progressives Congress in Iwo/Olaoluwa/Ayedire FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY owing to the selection crisis over who represents the party at the 2019 general election.
The hot contest has put once upon a time allies at daggers drawn because of political arrangement which has become a norm in picking candidates and the propriety and suitability of the aspirants themselves.
News checks have shown that topmost among the aspirants are a two termed and serving honourable member of Osun State House of Assembly, Leke Ogunsola, a pharmacist and a former chairman of Ayedire Local Government Mr Akintola Amobi who is a member of the Governing Council of Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun.
Informed sources say the aspirations of the duo has torn the party apart especially on which of the two divisions of the council should produce the candidate as the favoured council out of the three that constitutes the federal constituency.
The ticket has become contentious because the Kuta/Ileogbo side has taken the slot of the State parliament where Mr Akintola Amobi hails from with the Leke Ogunsola side to be left with nothing if care is not taken.
The second contentious issue is the fact that Mr Akintola Amobi is standing a corruption trial over a #300,000,000= Three Hundred Million Naira allegedly stolen by the Governing Council of Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has docked the Council members including Mr Akintola Amobi who was accused of sharing out the stolen Three Hundred Million Naira through his personal account.
One of the suspects , a contractor involved in the alleged scam has been sentenced into prison.
The apprehension of party members as obtained from sources close to the State APC secretariat is if after the election the party wins with Amobi who is likely to go to prison, the Federal Constituency will not have representative at the green chambers while Akintola Amobi’s jail term would last because INEC won’t call for by election in the area.
The other contention is the likelihood of the party losing the general election as a result of protest votes by the people of the local government because of lopsidedness of the selection against the choice of Hon Leke Ogunsola.
What becomes the outcome of the horse trading will be known as the substitution of candidates closes in second week of November 2018.
In the meantime The corruption trial of Mr Akintola Amobi at the Federal High Court Osogbo resumes by Monday 23rd October 2018
