OAU VC Tasks Universities On Problem Solving Curriculum

Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede has said university is supposed to be an institution that has the responsibility of tackling current challenges of the society and proffer solutions to future problems.

Ogunbodede who spoke at a campus capacity building with Entrepreneur Mindset workshop organized by First Bank PLC for thousands of students of Obafemi Awolowo University therefore expressed his commitment to pioneer curriculum that addresses current societal problems and focus on issues that would make life abundant in the nearest future.

He pledged his commitment to collaborate with any, agency, institution or organization that embarks on capacity building for his students adding that his joy is to make graduates of OAU self reliant and less dependent on government at the completion of their academic work on campus.

The Vice Chancellor specifically mention the numerous opportunity that abound in the Agriculture sector with the promise to collaborate with African Farmer Mogaji to leverage on the potential in Agric sector to boost not only the economy of the institution but to liberate graduating students of the University from depending on anybody for survival.

Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Directors of First Bank Plc, Mrs Ibukun Awosika had charged the students to be focused on how to impact on the society to earn a decent living.

She urged them to see themselves as potential entrepreneur with the mind of being employer of labour rather than looking from employment from anybody or government.

In his presentation, African Farmer Mogaji stated that the value chain of agriculture is endless and can only be identified by innovative minds.

According to him, Nigeria will become buoyant economically when its Agric potentials are adequately tapped and utilised judiciously.

Also speaking, Mr. Bodunrin Sasore who sensitized the students on the potentials that abound in the entertainment industry said there are many areas that can be explored to become self reliant in entertainment industry.

According to him, film making industry alone can accommodate no fewer than twenty professionals that will make their comfortable living and sought after by film Directors
The two-day seminar attracted captains of industries, business men, the academia, professionals and bankers among others as resource persons.
