Breaking: Police Charge PDP Governorship Candidate, Adeleke for Examination Malpractices, Impersonation
By Jide Afolabi
The Nigeria police force has charged People’s Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the September 22 governorship election in Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke for examination malpractice, aiding and abetting, impersonation, and criminal conspiracy.
The charges were filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja today, Wednesday.
Also to be arraigned alongside Adeleke is the School Principal of Ojo-Aro Community High School, Egbedore Local Government Area, Osun State, and three others for what the police describes as conspiracy.
Those to be arraigned alongside Senator Adeleke include Mr Sikiru Adeleke, Alhaji Aregbesola Mufutau (Principal of Ojo-Aro Community Grammar School, Egbedore LGA, Osun State), Mr Gbadamosi Thomas Ojo (School Staff allegedly responsible for the registration of candidates for NECO) and Mr Dare Olutope (School Teacher who allegedly facilitated the commission of the crime).
According to the Force spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, who addressed journalists on Wednesday said that investigations revealed that Senator Adeleke and his brother Sikiru Adeleke registered and sat for the National Examination Council Examination (NECO) 2017 as internal candidates, impersonating students of the school at the ages of 57 and 42 years respectively.
The police said that Senator Adeleke had made a cautionary statement and admitted that he registered for the 2017 NECO examinations as an internal student in the said school but did not sit for the examination.
He explained further that both Senator Adeleke and his brother Sikiru Adeleke’ s pictures were captured in the school’s photo book of 2017 but no NECO seal was found on their photos, unlike the rest of the students.
