Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Sold His Father To Kidnappers For N45,000 In Osun
The Osun Police Command, on Tuesday announced the arrest of one Isa Adamu, 27, who allegedly conspired with others to kidnap and later murder his father Ibrahim Adamu, 55 after collecting ransom from his family.
Mr Fimihan Adeoye, Osun Commissioner of Police, while parading suspects at the Police Command in Osogbo, told newsmen that on April 27, one Ibrahim Adamu, 55, was kidnapped in his house in Owode-Ede, Osun, and driven away in his car by a gang of suspected kidnapers.
He said when the case was reported to the police, a prime suspected, One Jola-Anabi Saheed was arrested and charged to court for the kidnapping.
He said the prime suspect later ran away (jumped bail) after he was granted administrative bail by the court.
Adeoye said the action of the prime suspect led to further investigation by the police, which resulted to the arrest of three other suspects, which includes the son of the kidnapped victim.
He said the police, after interrogating the three suspects, discovered that it was the son of the suspect that hired the others, plus the prime suspect that jumped-bail, to kidnap his father.
He said it was also discovered that the suspects killed their victim, and thereafter collected N3 million ransom from the deceased’s family.
The CP further explained that the suspects confessed to have buried their victim’s body near a river and it is now believed that the corpse had been washed away by the river.
He said the son of the kidnapped victim confessed to the police that his accomplices promised to give him N500,000 from the ransom collected from his family but only gave him N45,000.
Adeoye said another four men robbery gang, terrorising Owode, Ede, Osun and it’s environs were also arrested by the police and two vehicles, electronics and other items were recovered from them.
He said an Hummer Bus that was equally stolen in Osun in August was traced and recovered in Abeokuta, Ogun, from the buyer and the recovery also led to the recovery of five other stolen vehicles through SARS investigation.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to recover the body of the deceased, may be it has been washed away by water, we don’t know.
“The suspects promised to give the son of the deceased a sum of five hundred thousand naira initially, but later shortchanged him and gave him 45,000 out of three million naira they collected from the family.
“So, this young man sold his father to death for the sum of 45,000 only, “Adeoye lamented.
The police commissioner warned stakeholders in the electoral process to operate within and in accordance with the law, as the Osun governorship draws near.
He called on politicians to talk to their followers so that they don’t do anything in contravention of the law, warning that anybody that breaks the law during the coming election would face the wrath of the law
The son of the deceased, while fielding questions from newsmen, said the initial plan he had with the gang was not to kill his father but to collect money from him.
He expressed regret over the incident, saying his father hostile disposition towards him compelled him to seek for means to “punish” him.
Meanwhile, the mother of the prime suspect, alongside his younger brother and pastor were paraded on Tuesday.
