Group Applauds President Buhari For Declaring June 12 As Democracy Day

An All Progressive Congress (APC) online group in Osun, Progressives e-Group on Thursday commended President Mohammed Buhari for declaring June 12 as democracy day.

The group in a statement said there is no doubt that the APC led federal government has set pace for prosperous Nigeria, saying President Buhari has achieved what previous administrations have failed to achieve.

The progressive e-group however commended governor Rauf Aregbesola who it said since the inception of his administration has been observing June 12 as the real Nigerian democracy day.

The statement reads: “received with admiration the official declaration of June 12th as Democracy Day as well as honouring the symbol of that historic day and presumed winner of June 12th 1993 presidential election – Bashorun Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola with highest title in the land – “GCFR” by President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government.

“President Muhammadu Buhari deserves commendation for towing the path of honour, equity and justice by according both the date and Chief MKO Abiola the needed recognition they deserved both in impact and measurements. Chief MKO Abiola and June 12 are like; what is water to the fish when our democratic history is been recounted”.

“The duo gave birth to uninterrupted democracy which we are enjoying today since 1999. President Buhari has proven himself once more to be someone who believes in democratic norms, appreciates national sacrifice and understands political sociology of Nigeria vis-a-vis sense of belonging.”

“Also, we give kudos to our Principal – Ogbeni AbdulRauf Aregbesola and other pro democracy progressives governors who have been declaring June 12 as public holiday many years back and clamouring for official national recognition of June 12th and Chief MKO Abiola as symbol of this current democracy. We are happy to associate with you today because your struggles has finally yielded fruitful result.”

It is crystal clear now that steadily but surely, the APC led federal government will continue to heal the wound of the past and set the pace for a prosperous Nigeria that we will all be proud of always”. Progressive e-group said.
