May Day: PYM Demands Better Welfare For Workers
Progressive Youth Movement, (PYM) a Social Political Ogarnisation, Osun State Chapter has congratultated the Nigeria workers as they celebrate this year workers day and demanded better welfare for workers in Nigeria.
The group said that the 60,000 minimum wage being demanded by the labour is the reality of Nigeria economy and urged government at all levels not to ingnore the demand by engaging the workers to formulate a visisble consensus.
PYM Osun State Cordinator, Comrade Manruf Ogunbodede in statement in Osogbo and made available to the journalists commended the workers for their resilience and commitment to democratic development through their dedication to public service.
According to Ogunmodede, workers deserve better pay if the federal government is determine to stem the tide of corruption in Nigeria and expect better service delivery in its quest to expand Nigeria economy.
He said “PYM as a social political organisation commends Nigeria workers for their endurance and perseverance especially during the last economic recession, the situation no doubt limited the government responsibility to workers and reduced workers purchasing power.”
“We commend the paliatives introduced by President Bhuari including the bailout, Paris Club refund disbursement among others with a clear directive to be use for salary and payment of other emoluments, never the less there is more to do with the present economic reality”.
PYM however want to use this workers day to urge the workers to support the anti corruption fight of President Buhari, if they few elites are not stealing our common wealth, we the country of abundance, but the previous corruption led us to this mess to a level that some state are unable to pay workers salary”
“Workers for a very long time are the one aiding public officer holders in siphoning public fund and if we can discuss this trend through productivity and strong institution, it would go a long way in ameliorate the suffering the the workers and the soceity”.
The statement urged workers not to relent in making Nigeria a better place for all and sundry saying regardless of the wages and woreforce agitations, they are primarily Nigerians who have responsibility to work for the progress and development of the country.
