Senate Mace Saga: Govt Want To Overthrow The Leadership – Wike
By Jide Afolabi
Rivers state governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike has alleged that the invasion of the Senate and forceful snatching of the mace by hoodlums were attempts by the federal government to overthrow leadership of the Senate.
The governor made the allegation while addressing the congregation at the ongoing 105th Annual Nigerian Baptist Convention holding at the International Baptist Camp Ground in Ndele, Rivers state with the theme “Moving Forward: Building a Great Nation through Effective Christian Participation”.
Wike said “This govt piloted what you saw in the senate. We know. Are we fools? We are not fools”.
“It wasn’t the mace they wanted but wanted to overthrow the leadership there” he said.
The governor vilified President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for their excuses and blaming the opposition for lack of performance. He said Nigerians knew there were problems and that was why Buhari was elected.
He said APC came with propaganda but can not sustain the government with propaganda.
“APC came in with propaganda. Nigerians knew there were problems and that is why APC was elected” he stated.
Wike alleged that the Federal government refused to assist Rivers government to tackle security challenges in the state and as a result, he went back to Christians in the state and they prayed to God who answered their prayers.
He said “There is God and the only way you can know is when you have come to rivers state”.
“We prayed and God answered. God sent them problems. And we laughed at them. The problem they had is because they have touched God’s anointed” he said.
He said that one of his key projects is supporting the Church stating that Rivers state is a Christian state. “Christians will decide who rules them here”.
“Instead of giving money to killers. I will put money in the church and I have no regret for it”.
“If we don’t give to church, who shall we give. Project in God’s house is key to my govt. This project is a key project”.
