Politics: Time For Youth To Take Charge Is Now-Don
A university Don at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Dr. Olu Awofeso said the time for Youth to take charge of leadership in politics is now or the not too young policy recently effected might be a mirage.
The former Head of Political Science department of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife stated this in a lecture delivered at a symposium organised by MC REO support group held at Oba Okunade Sijuwade Memorial City Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife with the theme: ‘Perception of Osun State Politics’
“Osun is a blessed state with abundant human and materials resources though, more of civil servant but can rise his GDP through the God’s given abundant.”
Dr. Olu Awofeso represented by Mr. Kingsley Ogunne, a research student in the department said, years back; the likes of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, M.T Mbu; Ganiyu Dawudu, Late Senator Chuba Okadigbo all assumed leadership positions in their twenties and thirties as Ministers then called (Federal Commissioner) Commissioner, Special Advisers.
Alhaji Shehu Shagari later became Nigeria’s President in 1979.
“The Youth of Nigeria today are better equipped to take leadership position but I doubt if the bourgeoise will allow them to get there because of financial war chest as Nigeria’s election is basically depends on monetary value.”
“Osun State is well endowed but priority of Programme is affecting the state.”
“Infrastructure is good, but should not be done at the expense of working masses.”
In his opening remarks, Robbin Emmanuel Oluwafemi (MC REO) said the inspiration to organise this Programme came when his lecturer at the department of Local Government Studies, Dr. Fatai Olasupo taught him a course on ‘Community Participation’.
Since then, I’ve always have it at the back of my mind to always give back to the society in my own little way reason this symposium.
In their words, Mrs. Similola Ashaolu and Mrs. Bola Mosobalaje affirmed that the Youth should be focused and believe in themselves as when there is a will, there is a way.
