Osun 2018: Disquiet in APC as Elders, Chairman Set for Showdown
By Segun Adejumo
All is not well with leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and there is crack in the wall of the party on the 2018 governorship election.
The Elders Caucus of the APC and the executive of the party led by the Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, seem to be working at cross purposes on the direction of the party for the forthcoming election.
CityMirrorNews gathered that the Elder Caucus of the APC at their last meeting held on September 5, 2017 in Ilobu frowned at the manner at which the APC chairman is directing the affairs of the party, particularly on the governorship election.
It was gathered that the elders caucus complained that Famodun was holding down the APC governorship aspirants by refusing to lift ban for campaign on their aspirations.
Sources in the APC confided in CityMirrorNews that the APC elder directed Famodun to lift the ban so that the governorship aspirants would be free to come out to campaign.
According to the sources, the APC elders told Faamodun that the non lifting of the ban was doing more damage to the party than good and contributing to the impression that Governor Rauf Aregbesola has pocketed the party.
CityMirrorNews gathered that the APC elders threaten to address press conference to lift ban on the governorship campaign for the aspirants if he failed to do so within a week.
Famodun who was accused of acting Aregbesola’s script, was said to be uncomfortable with the position of the party’s elders.
As at the time of filing this report, the APC chairman is yet to lift ban on the governorship campaign.
