The National Chairman of the Action Alliance (AA), Chief Barr. Kenneth Udeze, has accused some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of allegedly conniving with one Mr. Adekunle Omoaje to institute a secret suit over the leadership of the party.

Udeze, in a statement issued on Sunday, described the development as “shocking”, alleging that the suit was filed despite an existing pre-election case on the same subject matter pending before a Federal High Court.

According to him, the ongoing case was instituted by what he described as the authentic leadership of the Action Alliance under his leadership.

Udeze alleged that the latest development was part of an attempt by “desperate” individuals within INEC to undermine the leadership of the party, urging the electoral commission to respect the rule of law.

“We have uncovered this hide-and-seek game and we shall not hesitate to expose the rot in the Commission if it continues to disobey the subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal which affirmed my leadership,” he said.

The AA chairman also questioned INEC’s alleged interest in the internal affairs of the party, asking why the commission had become involved in the leadership dispute.

He further recalled what he described as the difficult period he endured during the leadership struggle, including detention in different facilities and at Ilesha Prison in Osun State.

Udeze said the leadership dispute within the party predated the tenure of many of the INEC officials currently handling the matter, stressing that the commission should recognise his leadership as affirmed by the courts.

“The leadership tussle of Action Alliance is older than 90 per cent of the commission’s staff now trying to sit on a history older than them. They must recognise my leadership as affirmed by law. That is what the law says,” he stated.

He called on INEC, under its current leadership, to remain neutral and avoid actions that could destabilise the party.

“Prof. Amupitan’s INEC must obey the rule of law. It must not allow itself to be used as a tool to destabilise a lawful political party,” Udeze said.

He vowed that his faction would continue to pursue the matter through lawful means, declaring that no alleged conspiracy would overturn what he described as the decision of the courts.

“We remain resolute. No amount of conspiracy can truncate the will of the law,” he added.
