UNGA: Nigeria’s Attendance, A Mere Political Jamboree-Jackson Ojo

A security expert and global affairs analyst, Jackson Lekan Ojo, has slammed the Nigeria’s delegation to the United Nation General Assembly held in New York, describing it as ‘needless crowd” who were on political tourism.

Ojo said rather than going there to make logical presentation of pertinent issues of national concerns, the Nigeria ‘s delegation decided to go for mere political jamboree in their large numbers while other countries went there with issues of necessary concerns .

He explained that the attendees at the UNGA are less concerned about the size of entourage nor with the type of cars any one drives to the event, but the quality and relevance of presentations.

The security expert also took a swipe at President Bola Tinubu for his failure to attend the event, saying such action is tantamount to dereliction of duty on the part of the President.

Ojo added that while his host in France made it to the event in New York, President Tinubu deliberately stayed back and refused to attend for reasons best known to him, describing his action as outrightly lackadaisical in all ramifications.

He said,” While other countires attended the UNGA in New York by their heads of governments to present issues of interests as it affect their countries, Nigeria’s delegation went their in crowd purposely for political tourism rather than making logical presentation of national concerns.

“They have forgotten that the attendees at UNGA are less concerned about the size of your delegation and the sophistication of your fleet of cars. What matters to them is the quality of your presentation.

“Also, President Tinubu deliberately absent at the UNGA even when his host in France, President Macron headed to New York to attend the event after having dinner with him, President Tinubu stayed back doing nothing.

“I don’t know what would have been his reason for not attending such global event, afterall, all his predecessors had attended regularly in the past, from Olusegun Obasanjo to late Muhammadu Buhari. As far as I am concerned, , that is the highest level of irresponsibility.

“If the president was able to attend the issues concerning Ogun State in France, he should have used the same energy in
New York. Afterall, his AMBASSADOR Senator Jimoh Ibrahim argued that Mr president wouldn’t attend a meeting that he would deliver 15 minutes speech”.
