UCSS Alumni Celebrate Golden Jubilee, Commission Multimillion-Naira Projects In Ibadan

It was a memorable homecoming on Saturday, September 19, 2026, as former students, retired teachers, dignitaries and other stakeholders of United Christian Secondary School (UCSS), Omi-Adio, Ibadan, gathered to celebrate the institution’s 50th Founders’ Day anniversary.

The Golden Jubilee celebration, which brought together old students from different generations, featured the commissioning of a multimillion-naira renovated classroom block, awards presentation, medical outreach, widow empowerment and the inauguration of a new executive council of the United Christian Secondary School Alumni Association (UCSSAA).

Established by the United Christians of Omi-Adio on land donated by a Muslim family in Abidogun community, the institution was upgraded from a modern school to a secondary school in 1976 before it was later taken over by the Oyo State Government alongside other mission schools.

The anniversary provided an opportunity for the alumni, spanning five decades, to reconnect with one another, celebrate the school’s legacy and contribute to its development.

The major highlight of the event was the commissioning of a fully renovated block comprising four classrooms, two administrative offices and two restrooms, undertaken by the UCSSAA.

Speaking at the ceremony, the National President of UCSSAA, Builder Asimiyu Towolawi Bashir Segun, described the project as the association’s first major structural intervention in the school, saying it was aimed at creating a more conducive and dignified learning environment for students.

Bashir noted that the renovated block was particularly significant because it was the first structure constructed by the school’s founding fathers before the government took over the institution.

He added that the association had also sponsored the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees of six indigent students, while introducing welfare initiatives aimed at supporting its members.

«“In the last 50 years, this is the first time we are having a gathering of this scale. Bringing our members together from across the country is immensely fulfilling,” he said.»

The General Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the association, Pastor Folorunso Adeniyi Adesina, said efforts to unite the various class sets of the alumni association began in 2016, when he rallied the pioneer and other sets to establish a unified body.

According to him, the initiative eventually led to the 2021 reunion and culminated in the Golden Jubilee celebration.

Adesina pledged the continued support of the alumni association towards the growth and development of the school, while urging parents and guardians to take greater interest in the academic and moral development of their children and wards.

Commissioning the renovated facilities, the member representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency and APC candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, Hon. Remi Oseni, commended the alumni for giving back to their alma mater.

Oseni described UCSS, Omi-Adio, as one of the premier schools in the axis, noting its contribution to the development of prominent individuals who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour.

Representing the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Segun Olayiwola, the Zonal Director, Ibadan Zone 3, Mrs Victoria Oloyede, also commended the alumni for championing community-driven development.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to improving the standard of education and providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning across the state.

The celebration also featured an awards ceremony during which 30 individuals were recognised for their contributions to the development of the school and society.

Among those honoured were former Commissioner for Education, Prof. Joseph Olowofela; Pastor Folorunso Adeniyi Adesina; Rev. Adegboyega Abifarin; Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi; Prof. Muideen Oladipupo; Prof. Oladepo Patrick Oyeniyi; Alhaji Lukman Oladapo and Ayoade Adedokun.

Opoola Kehinde Olamiposi was also recognised as the best-performing student in the 2025 WASSCE.

Other activities marking the Golden Jubilee included a free medical outreach for residents of the host community, empowerment for widows and the inauguration of the newly elected executive council of the alumni association.

The new executive members are Builder Asimiyu Towolawi Bashir Segun, President; Rev. Adegboyega Abifarin Adesoji, Vice President I; Bolanle Bose Ola, Vice President II; Pastor Folorunso Adeniyi Adesina, General Secretary; Oyeniyi Emmanuel Olusoji, Treasurer; and Omotoso Christianah, Financial Secretary.

Others are Tunde Olajide, PRO I; Ramoni Ibrahim Idowu, PRO II; Adeyemo Taiwo Mutiulahi, Auditor I; and Adefila Deborah Bolaji, Auditor II.
