Osun Monarch Backs Restructuring, Tips Industrialisation As Solution To Recession

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has backed the call for the restructuring of the Nigerian nation which has been a subject of controversy from certain circles of the populace.

The traditional ruler argued that restructuring did not mean break away of the geopolitical regions and entities from the federal system as has been misconstrued by some people.

He stressed that it had rather become imperative if the country must swim out of the current murky waters of socio-political and economic development.

The traditional rulers spoke on Friday in Iwo Town during a scholarship and award programme organised by Akin Adebisi Foundation for selected public secondary schools as a part of the NGO’s efforts to empower indigent students for further education.

Oba Akanbi stressed that restructuring of the country would empower the geopolitical entities to discover, develop and maximise their various natural endowments and potentialities for economic empowerment.

He added that the strategy would go a long way in stemming the tide of the current recession and attendant hardship.

Oba Akanbi lamented that the country had failed and now sitting on a mud which could collapse any time because of its fragility.

He argued that no solid foundation could be laid on a mud, insisting that if the country would be properly rebuilt, restructuring it on a solid foundation was mandatory.

“You can’t build with iron on top of a mud. You must first of all destroy the mud before you can put up a solid structure. Nigeria must do away with wrong systems to build a solid foundation for survival and greatness. This is what we are saying about restructuring. “

He urged the Muhammadu Buhari administration to go ahead and actualise the call for restructuring.

The monarch also urged government to create a conducive environment and invite foreign investors whom he said could bring their technologies and industrialise the nation on tax-free basis as a part of the efforts to develop the nation.

“China and South Africa which got independence in 1991 gained rapid development through advance technology and industrialisation.

What Nigeria needs badly now is industrialisation and this can only happen if we embark on the restructuring that we are talking about now,” the Oluwo said.

“If governments at all levels are proactive enough to embark on industrialisation programme and build industries here and there and also rescucitate those that have moribund, then we can generate employment for our youths.

The Oluwo lamented that a great deal of natural products especially farm produce were wasting away due to lack of relevant industries to develop them as consumer and export goods.

He noted that with industrialisation, the government food production and security programme would be easily be achieved and the current economic recession problem would be solved partly.

Corroborating the monarch, Mr Akin Adebisi, President Akin Adebisi Foundation said there was nothing wrong in the restructuring of the country.

Explaining the motive behind his scholarship and award programmes, Adebisi said he the gesture was impact on the people of his immediate environment especially the young ones.

CityMirrorNews reports that no fewer than 30 students from ten selected government secondary schools in Iwo and its environs were given award for their excellent performance.
