Police Arrest 27-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Murder Of Woman In Adamawa Hotel
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Ali Haruna, in connection with the alleged murder of a woman at a hotel in Girei Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, at No Vex Hotel, Girei.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said police operatives from the Girei Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a report of an altercation at the hotel.
According to the statement, the victim was found with severe injuries and lying in a pool of blood.
“She was immediately rushed to a medical facility where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” the police said.
The suspect, Haruna, a resident of Bolori Ward, Maiduguri, Borno State, was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.
The police said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect allegedly made statements claiming responsibility for the act, but stressed that his claims were being treated as part of the ongoing investigation.
“The police are, however, treating this as part of the ongoing investigation and are working to establish the circumstances and motive behind the incident,” the statement added.
The knife allegedly used in the commission of the offence was also recovered from the suspect and secured as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and conduct a discreet, thorough and professional investigation.
The command assured members of the public that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
It also urged residents to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information and avoid jungle justice while the investigation continues.
However, when Weekend Punch visited the scene on Saturday, an eyewitness gave a different account of the incident.
The eyewitness claimed that the suspect lodged at the hotel, which is reportedly owned by a retired police officer, on Friday afternoon and allegedly committed the murder around 5pm the same day.
The eyewitness further claimed that the suspect allegedly told people at the scene that the deceased was the third person he had killed in 2026.
The claim could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report, while the police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death is ongoing.
