Osun Poll: Defend Your Votes Adeleke Tells Workers, Declares Friday Public Holiday

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, public holiday to enable public workers to travel to their respective polling locations and participate in Saturday’s governorship election.

The declaration was contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Rasheed Olawale.

According to the circular, the declaration was made to allow workers who are not residing in the locations where they registered to vote to travel to their respective polling units and prepare to exercise their franchise.

The circular noted that all categories of workers are covered by the work-free day, except those engaged in emergency and essential duties.

The governor also urged Osun workers, their relatives and friends to turn out en masse on Saturday to vote and defend their votes, saying this would ensure continuity of good governance across the state.

He commended the steadfastness of the labour leadership and workers in supporting his administration, while describing the relationship between his government and Osun workers as mutually beneficial.

“The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies. We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for.

“We must defend the gains of the last three and a half years. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across the board to labour and the people of Osun. We cannot and must not allow a return to the dark days,” the governor said.
