Fear Grips Parties As INEC Publishes Candidates’ List Today

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday published the list of senatorial and House of Representatives candidates for the 2027 general elections in Kwara State.

The list includes the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the state’s three senatorial districts. Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is listed as the party’s candidate for Kwara Central, while Dr. Ahmad Muhammad will contest the Kwara North seat. Prince Lekan Adewoye is the APC candidate for Kwara South.

For the House of Representatives, Dr. Rafiu Ajakaye is listed as the APC candidate for Offa/Ifelodun/Oyun Federal Constituency. Florence Oyeyemi will contest the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke Ero Federal Constituency seat, while Maman Mohamed is the party’s candidate for Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency.

The commission also listed Saidu Baba Ahmed as the APC candidate for Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency. Mukhtar Tolani Shagaya will seek a second term representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, while Engr. AbdulQawiy Olododo will contest the Ilorin East/Ilorin South seat.

According to INEC, the publication of the candidates’ names is in line with the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.

However, the commission said political parties may still withdraw or replace candidates until Aug. 22, 2026, in accordance with the Electoral Act and the election timetable.

INEC also announced that the final list of presidential and National Assembly candidates will be published on Sept. 12, 2026, after the completion of the substitution and withdrawal process.

The publication of the list marks another key milestone in preparations for the 2027 general elections as political parties intensify campaigns and other pre-election activities across the country.
