Osun Accord Crisis Deepens As Party Elders Set Up Committee To Review Political Future

The internal crisis within the Accord Party in Osun State took a new turn on Wednesday as the party’s Elders and Stakeholders loyal to its 2027 presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, inaugurated a seven-member committee to determine their next political direction following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The development marks a fresh phase in the disagreement between the governor and a faction of the party over what the stakeholders described as his failure to publicly identify with the Accord Party’s 2027 presidential project.

The group had earlier urged Governor Adeleke to openly endorse Dr. Olawepo-Hashim’s presidential ambition and distance himself from any perceived support for President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the stakeholders, no governorship candidate contesting on the platform of the Accord Party should identify with or campaign for the presidential candidate of another political party.

They had warned that failure to comply with the directive would compel them to review their political support for the governor ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
With the expiration of the ultimatum, the stakeholders said Governor Adeleke had not demonstrated the level of commitment expected of a governorship candidate to the party’s national leadership and presidential agenda.

Consequently, they announced the constitution of a seven-member committee to undertake wide consultations with party members, political stakeholders, opinion leaders and other interested groups within and outside the Accord Party before recommending the group’s next line of action.

The committee is chaired by Alhaja Sherifat Oke, while Hon. Sunday Olayori will serve as Secretary. Other members are Engr. Araromi Bode, Hon. Muyideen Muhammed, Hon. Mrs. Lawal Monsurat, Hon. Adeniji Alade and Hon. Quadri Abiodun.

According to the stakeholders, the committee has been given two weeks to complete its assignment and submit its report.

Although the group did not disclose the options being considered, party sources indicated that the consultations would examine available political alternatives aimed at protecting the Accord Party’s presidential project and safeguarding the interests of members across Osun State.

The stakeholders reiterated their commitment to the Accord Party, insisting that their support for Dr. Olawepo-Hashim’s presidential aspiration remains unwavering.

“Our loyalty is first to the Accord Party and its national project. Every candidate seeking election on the party’s platform has a responsibility to promote and defend its agenda at all levels,” a party source said.

Political observers believe the committee’s recommendations could shape the political landscape ahead of the Osun governorship election, particularly if it proposes a review of the group’s support for Governor Adeleke or recommends engagement with other political interests.

The latest development is expected to further test internal cohesion within the Accord Party as preparations intensify for both the 2026 Osun governorship election and the party’s 2027 presidential campaign.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the governor’s campaign team were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
