Osun 2026: Islamic Leaders Call for Peaceful, Violence-Free Governorship Election
-Offer Prayers For Peace
Islamic leaders in Osun State have called on political stakeholders, supporters, and residents to ensure that the August 15 governorship election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, devoid of violence, rancour, and hate campaigns.
The appeal was made on Wednesday during a meeting between the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Asiwaju Khamis Olatunde Badmus, and the leadership of the Osun State League of Imams and Alfas in Osogbo.
The meeting was attended by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, alongside Islamic leaders drawn from the 30 local government areas and the Area Office in the state.
The clerics stressed the need for Muslim parents to educate their children and wards against allowing themselves to be used as agents of violence, thuggery, or electoral misconduct by politicians before, during, and after the election.
Speaking during the meeting, Asiwaju Badmus said the gathering was convened to discuss issues affecting the Muslim community and to promote greater participation of Muslims in governance and public administration at all levels in Nigeria.
He also noted that participants deliberated on the need for government to expand the scope of Islamic education within the school curriculum as part of efforts to strengthen moral and religious values.
Addressing the gathering, APC governorship candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji expressed appreciation to the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland and the leadership of the League of Imams and Alfas for the opportunity to interact with the Muslim faithful.
Oyebamiji assured the gathering that, if elected governor, his administration would remain committed to promoting the welfare of Muslims and all residents of Osun State, irrespective of their religious beliefs or political affiliations.
In his closing remarks, the President of the Osun State League of Imams and Alfas, Sheikh Musa Animashaun, offered prayers for peace, unity, and a credible electoral process, urging all residents to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the governorship election.
