Ondo Govt Warns Against Fake Security Alerts, Urges Residents To Support Agencies
The Ondo State Government has cautioned residents against spreading unverified security reports capable of causing panic and disrupting peace.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Emmanuel Ajanaku, made the appeal in a statement on Thursday, following the circulation of reports alleging kidnappings in schools and the presence of bandits within Akure metropolis.
According to the government, investigations conducted by relevant authorities showed that the reports were false and had already been dismissed by both the state government and security agencies.
The government expressed concern over the increasing spread of misinformation, noting that false reports could create unnecessary fear among residents and hinder the operations of security personnel.
It commended the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, Amotekun Corps, the Department of State Services and other security agencies for their commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.
“The reports alleging kidnappings in schools and the presence of bandits in Akure are false and do not reflect the security situation in the state,” the statement said.
The government further urged residents to rely on information from official government sources, accredited media organisations and verified social media platforms before sharing security-related reports.
It also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities, stressing that sustaining peace and security requires the collective efforts of all residents.
