As the general election season draws closer, various aspirants have begun to declare their intentions to contest different political offices.

In Kwara State, the situation is no different, as four former cabinet members of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq have indicated interest in contesting for political offices under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among them is Engineer Abdulquawiy Cook Olododo, the immediate past commissioner for works, who is contesting for the Ilorin East/Ilorin South House of Representatives seat.

Notably, his father, Hon. Abdulganiyu Cook Olododo, represented the constituency in the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023 before being defeated by Hon. Yinka Aluko, the current representative.

Similarly, Hajia Sa’datu Modibbo Kawu, a former commissioner for tertiary education, is also vying for the Ilorin East/Ilorin South Federal Constituency seat, and is expected to face Abdulquawiy Olododo at the party’s primary election.

In the same vein, Dr Rafiu Ajakaye, former chief press secretary to the Kwara State governor, has declared his intention to contest for the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency. However, the seat is currently occupied by Hon. Ismail Tijani, who is serving his second term in office.

Furthermore, Olayinka Fafoluyi (Solace), a former assistant on new media to the governor, has also joined the race, contesting for the Irepodun Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, these political bigwigs have reportedly resigned from their various capacities within the government to pursue their ambitions.
