President Bola Tinubu on Friday paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a foundational leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) whose legacy continues to shape the party’s direction.

Speaking at the APC’s 4th Elective National Convention in Abuja, Tinubu led party members in observing a moment of silence in honour of Buhari and other deceased party leaders.

“Let us stand and observe a moment of silence in memory of our first leader and the first elected president produced by our party, President Muhammadu Buhari,” Tinubu said.

The President said the sacrifices of Buhari and other founding members helped build the APC into a major political force, stressing the need to preserve their vision.

He noted that both deceased and living party members share a collective responsibility to sustain the ideals upon which the party was founded.

“All the departed members and those of us still alive bearing the torch did not build this party for division and selfishness. Together, we have the duty to ensure that the vision of our founding fathers is not diminished. We must deepen it,” he said.

Tinubu urged party members to honour the memories of past leaders by strengthening unity within the APC and remaining committed to its founding principles.

He said the best way to honour Buhari’s legacy and that of other party stalwarts is through discipline, unity and dedication to national development.
