Osun West Bye-Election: APC, PDP Supporters Clash, Scores Injured
Pandemonium broke out in Ido-Osun in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun state as supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed during the campaign for the flag bearer of the APC, Senator Mudasiru Hussain on Thursday.
CityMirrorNews learnt that the clash occurred at a popular junction close to the Ido-Osun Central Mosque where APC was billed to hold its rally.
The venue of the APC rally was a few steps away to the house of a strong PDP leader, where some campaign materials of Otunba Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the party were hung and pasted.
It was gathered that some PDP members who were inside the ward chairman’s house started hauling abusive words on Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the APC, shouting ‘Aregbe Ole, APC Ole’ on sighting the APC members.
Sources informed CityMirrorNews that while the PDP members continued their shout, a female APC member tore the Adeleke’s campaign flex hung on the wall of the PDP chairman’s house.
The medium learnt that the tearing of the Adeleke’s campaign flex further infuriated the PDP members as they started beating the APC members.
According to the sources, one unidentified man suspected to be the PDP members brought out cutlass and inflicted cut on one of the Oranmiyan drummers, a younger brother to Alhaji Gani, the leader of the group.
The situation degenerated to full blown attack as political thugs of the APC popularly called ‘State Boys’ met them on the attack, a development that resorted to reprisal attack.
The ward chairman of the PDP was injured and his house was vandalized, while some other people were injured.
Weapons like guns, cutlass, broken bottle, charms, clubs and others were freely used by the hoodlums of the two parties.
Some of the thugs were arrested by the police.
The attack occurred before the arrival of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Najeem Salam who is the chairman of the APC campaign committee and Senator Mudasiru Hussain, it was learnt.
