The Osun State Amotekun Corps has arrested six suspects for various criminal offenses across Osogbo and its environs, including burglary, theft, fraud, and illegal possession of firearms.

According to a press release issued on Monday by the corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass. The coordinated operations were carried out in response to distress calls from residents.

Among those arrested was Olamide Olowo, 39, from Okinni, who was accused of scamming foodstuff sellers with fake mobile money transfers. After fleeing the scene of his latest fraud, Amotekun operatives tracked him to his hideout and arrested him. He later confessed to defrauding nearly ten victims using the same method.

In another operation, Monsuru Moshood, 35, was caught in the act of stealing electrical wires from an uncompleted building in Osogbo. He admitted that he had been involved in similar thefts for more than three years and revealed that he usually sold the wires, worth over ₦350,000, to a buyer known as “Tini” in Sabo for only ₦10,000.

The corps also nabbed Nurudeen Olawale, 32, from Ibadan, who was caught red-handed while attempting to steal money from a mosque in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo. Worshippers on early morning prayers apprehended him and alerted Amotekun officers, who promptly arrested him.

Elsewhere, Oladare Yusuf, 21, from Iragbiji, was arrested in Apara village after stealing cocoa from a farm. He confessed to the offense, claiming it was his first attempt and that he planned to sell the stolen produce.

Two other suspects — Hamzat Mukaila, 45, a motorcyclist from Osogbo, and Tobi Omoranti, 30, a security guard from Ibadan — were caught in Ita-Olokan around 12:25 am while attempting to burgle a shop. They were found in possession of a gun and cutlass before being overpowered by operatives.

Speaking to journalists, the Corps Commander, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, praised his operatives for their vigilance and rapid response. “These suspects were arrested for serious offenses ranging from burglary and theft to fraud and illegal possession of weapons. Justice will take its full course,” he said.

Omoyele commended residents for their cooperation and urged them to remain alert. “We urge our people to continue to be security conscious and report any suspicious activities or security breaches in their environment. The Osun Amotekun Corps remains committed to protecting lives and property in our dear state,” he added.
