Osun Students Lament Neglect of State Government in Tertiary Education Funding

The Students Union Government of Osun State College of Education, Ilesa has described as inhabitable, deplorable, embarrassing and a death trap, the institutions Health Centre.

The Union also berated the state of the institution’s laboratories saying the facilities are better off poultries noting the irresponsiveness of government to the state owned tertiary institutions especially the College of Education, Ilesa.

According to them, there is the dearth of well-trained medical experts to cater for the Health Needs of Students as well as the non-availability of basic medical needs in the health facility.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by the Student Union’s President, Comrade Lateef Arowolo and the General Secretary, Comrade, Famogbiyele Olumuyiwa.

The students union described Aregbesola’s administration has one that has intentionally neglected the various stated owned higher institutions in funding with the College inclusive.

According to the statement “Findings in Tertiary Institutions Campuses in Osun State shows a ratio of 1000 students being taught by 1 lecturer which exposes how understaffed our institutions are while the few employed ones are not adequately paid.”

“Our health centres have become death centres owing to lack of equipment, our laboratories are better-off poultries, and our campuses lack proper monitoring which includes recent reports of the siphoning of about 3 billion Naira meant for TETFUND projects in Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun.”

The students however urged the Governor to prevail on the management of these higher institutions to ensure the upgrade of facilities and the unconditional release of funds to ameliorate the suffering of the few manpower on ground to enhance smooth academic calendar of the institutions.
