ADC Coalition Rekindles Hope For Better Nigeria — Adetimehin

A former House of Representatives candidate under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Ekiti South Federal Constituency I in the 2019 general elections, Hon. Abiodun Adetimehin, has declared his strong support for the emerging ADC-led coalition movement, describing it as a credible alternative and a necessary intervention to rescue Nigeria from worsening socio-economic crises.

In a statement made available to journalists, Adetimehin reflected on his political journey within the ADC, beginning with his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate in the 2019 election. He recalled coming third in that contest and affirmed that his membership of the party has remained intact due to his unyielding commitment to Nigeria’s progress.

“The ADC has consistently offered itself as a platform built on the strength of integrity, pedigree, and commitment to qualitative leadership. That was why I was chosen in 2019 to fly the party’s flag, and the same principle guided the choice of Dr. Wole Oluyede as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2022 Ekiti election,” Adetimehin stated.

Commenting on the new ADC Coalition being formed ahead of the 2027 elections, he described it as a bold response to the failings of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government, which he said has pushed Nigerians deeper into poverty and hardship.

“It’s heartwarming to see notable figures like Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Mr. Peter Obi, and other influential stakeholders collapsing their structures into the ADC. It is a breath of fresh air for our democracy and a sign of renewed hope for the people,” he said.

Adetimehin praised the national leadership of the ADC under Chief Ralph Nwosu for its decision to accommodate new leaders and members in the interest of national progress. According to him, the party has emerged as a rallying point for all Nigerians yearning for credible opposition and an alternative political direction as the PDP continues to flounder and lose relevance.

He called on the coalition not to limit its ambition to merely unseating the APC in 2027 but to remain steadfast in holding the current administration accountable for its promises and policy failures.

“We must put Nigeria first. We cannot allow this country to slide irredeemably into the valley of insecurity, economic mismanagement, and hopelessness. Good leadership remains the foundation of every successful nation, and it is what Nigeria desperately needs right now.”

He lamented the growing hardship facing citizens, questioning the APC’s economic decisions, especially the controversial removal of fuel subsidy without adequate cushioning measures.

“Nigerians are poorer now than they were in January 2023. What is the essence of removing subsidy when it only brought more suffering? Ask any household today about their situation and you will hear the real story, not the fabricated statistics being pushed by the government,” he said.

Adetimehin cautioned against divisive ethnic and religious politics, urging politicians to protect Nigeria’s unity and diversity rather than exploit it for selfish gain

“The beauty of our nation lies in our cultural richness and plurality. Undermining that heritage for political convenience is dangerous and must stop. Nigeria is Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and every other group put together. We must nurture that bond, not break it.”

He called on well-meaning Nigerians to get involved in politics by joining credible platforms like the ADC, participating in elections, and helping to shape the country’s future.

“The ADC Coalition is open to every patriotic Nigerian. Join us to rebuild this country. Enough of sitting on the fence. Let’s speak up, vote, contest, and demand responsible leadership. Nigeria belongs to all of us,” Adetimehin charged.

He concluded by reaffirming his belief in the ADC’s capacity to bring forward competent candidates guided by democratic principles and driven by a genuine desire to serve.
