Osun West By-election: Hussein Emerges APC Candidate
The All Progress Congress(APC) primaries for Osun West senatorial by-election held today at Egbedore local government area of Osun State, has produced senator Mudasiru Hussein as the party’s candidate.
The by-election holds on July 8.
Hon Sanusi Rikiji, who chaired the screening committee for the primaries declared Hussein as the winner of the election.
Rikiji, an incumbent Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly announced the result at the venue, saying Hussein polled 2,412 out of 2, 560 delegates participated in the poll.
It will be recalled that the primaries election was postponed twice, from Monday till Wednesday, after another aspirant in the contest, Dr Ademola Adeleke faulted the process and thereafter withdrew from the race.
Adeleke resigned his membership of APC in a letter directed to the APC screening committee led Rikiji.
He however opted for the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP), where he clinched the ticket to contest for the Osun West senatorial by-election.
The screening committee of the APC had earlier disqualified Hussain from contesting for the senatorial seat base on his alleged inability to meet up with the party’s guidelines.
The party however swiftly staged a u-turn and declared Husein eligible for the race, the development that surprised many gladiators in the state.
