The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Clement O. Adebooye, has announced the introduction of a top-up programme that allows holders of Higher National Diplomas (HND) to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree within 24 months, as part of efforts to provide flexible education opportunities.

The VC represented by the Deputy VC (Academic, Research, Innovation and Partnerships), Prof. Adetunji Kehinde, disclosed this during the 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony for part-time students held on Thursday, September 27, 2024.

Addressing the newly admitted 233 part-time students, Professor Adebooye emphasised that the top-up programme, spanning six semesters, would be available in various fields such as Accounting, Building, Sociology, and other disciplines.

“This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to providing flexible and accessible education for all,” he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor, while congratulating the students on their admission, noted that their acceptance into the institution is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

“Your admission into Osun State University is not by chance but a testament to your hard work, dedication, and the merit of your applications,” he remarked.

However, he also used the opportunity to emphasise the importance of discipline, urging the students to adhere strictly to the university’s rules and regulations.

“Osun State University upholds the highest standards of discipline, and we expect each of you to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing student conduct.

Let me be unequivocal: any student found engaging in negative vices such as examination malpractice, cultism, or other forms of misconduct will face the full weight of disciplinary action, including possible dismissal from the University,” he warned.

Recognizing the unique challenges part-time students may face, Professor Adebooye expressed confidence in their ability to balance their studies with other responsibilities, stating, “As part-time students, many of whom are matured individuals juggling multiple responsibilities, I am confident that you will exemplify good behavior and remain focused on your academic goals.”

In addition, the Vice-Chancellor lauded the efforts of the lecturers and administrative staff, urging them to continue delivering high-quality education and support to both full-time and part-time students. “I encourage them to continue delivering high-quality education, ensuring that every student receives the academic and moral guidance necessary to thrive,” he said.

Professor Adebooye concluded his address by urging the students to embrace this new chapter of their lives with passion, determination, and integrity, as they strive for excellence.

“The knowledge and skills you acquire here will serve you well, not only for your personal development but also as you contribute meaningfully to society and the world at large,” he added.

The ceremony, which took place at the university’s main campus, was attended by top university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Provosts, Deans, Directors, and members of the Senate, as well as members of the press.
