Terrorists suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Sect have gruesomely murdered twenty villagers at Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Reports have it that the incident which occurred at about 8am on Friday, had the terrorists videoing when they purportedly slaughtered and beheaded 10 youths and handed their heads over to the community.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun said, they cannot ascertain the authenticity of the report.
According to him “there have been several attacks in that axis for some time however, I can not ascertain this killing especially the beheading because we do not have any such report at the moment”.
However, findings have it that the villagers were rounded up by Boko Haram after they returned to their village they escaped from few weeks ago to pick up some food items.
Responding to the killing, the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Sani Musa said he is helpless at the moment.
Accordingly, he said “my heart bleeds for them. This is my darkest moment as the representative of my people. I am very helpless, my people are being killed like animals.
“The question is, what do they want from us? These are harmless and innocent peasant farmers. Do they want to chase them away from their lands?”
He further lamented that, three weeks ago, a group of bandits stormed Kuchi village, where they killed seven security agents and kidnapped about 150 people, adding that, “up until this moment, the entire Kuchi community has remained deserted”.
As at the time of filing this report, the State Government has not reacted to the killings as the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Major General Bello Muhammed Abdullahi (rtd) could not be reached.
