Gunmen Invade Event Centre, Kill Babcock University Lecturer, Abduct Two
Armed men have reportedly invaded an event centre in Iperu area of Ogun State and opened fire on fun seekers, killing Olowojobi Yinka, a lecturer of Babcock University, Ilisan, Ogun State.
Our correspondent gathered that, the gunmen, numbering eight and dressed in black attire invaded the event centre known as Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu road in the Iperu area of the state on the evening of Friday, April 19.
The assailants who emerged from an unknown location opened fire indiscriminately on the people relaxing in the lounge, triggering a huge commotion, panic and stampede as guests at the lounge struggled to flee the place.
It was further gathered that, the gunmen seized the Babcock university lecturer and shot him in the chest when he resisted being taken away by them.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident to journalists in a statement on Monday.
According to the PPRO, the police have arrested a security man who had spent barely two weeks doing security job at the event centre in connection with the incident.
Odutola said, a manager of a car stand, simply known as Dare and a yet-to-be identified person were abducted by the gunmen.
“A suspicious coincidence led the police to arrest one Awada Ishaya of Plateau state who was employed two weeks ago when the event centre was launched as a security man for further interrogation.
“The lecturer was taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits and rescue the kidnapped victims. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops”, Odutola said.
