Osun 2018: PDP Flags Off Campaign, Unveils Six-Point Agenda

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has assured the people of Osun state of its poise to introduce fresh programmes and policies that would engender accelerated progress and development in every aspect of the state’s existence if it clinches victory in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The party Chairman, Soji Adagunodo, who stated this yesterday in Osogbo, the state capital, during the official flag off of campaign ahead of the exercise scheduled for September 22, said that the administration would be anchored on a six-point agenda.

They include: economic rejuvenation, agricultural revolution, restructured education system, improved workers’ welfare and conditions of service, improved health care delivery as well as improved road and water infrastructures.

While addressing a crowd of party leaders, members and supporters at its secretariat, Adagunodo upbraided the administration of the incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola, pointing out that the regime smacked of “terrible decline in human welfare and collapse in infrastructure witnessed in the last eight years.”

Adagunodo lamented that the state had been enmeshed in bad governance, corruption, poor infrastructure and and high profile debt, leaving hardship, poverty and underdevelopment in their wake.

He noted that PDP’ administration to be led by Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the flag bearer, would inspire quality change that would turn around the fortunes of the state and make life meaningful to the people.

“Osun State has never been in such a terrible mess as it is today in all ramifications. The cause of the mess can be attributed to eight years of bad governance, lawlessness, wanton corruption, policy summersault and total decay of all values and norms we were known for,” Adagunodo lamented.

“Osun State is regrettably one of the four most indebted states in Nigeria with practically nothing to show for the humongous debt incurred by the present administration,” he added.

“The only visible legacies of the APC in Osun State are years of unpaid salaries and allowances, dry taps in all towns and villages, dilapidated roads and public buildings, dysfunctional health and education system, low morale in the public service and a general state of anomie.

” It is for these reasons that the PDP has resolved to provide a better, credible, sustainable and people- friendly alternative set of programmes and policies to restore our dear state to the path of economic prosperity, social emancipation and general wellbeing of all and sundry, ” Adagunodo said.

Adagunodo also declared that a significant number of members of some political parties such as SDP, PDP, Accord Party, and the ruling APC decamped to PDP yesterday.

The party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, while corroborating Adagunodo’s narratives on the party’s manifesto, also promised to run a people-oriented governance that would deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

He promised to turn the state into a place where everybody, including the youth, would be able to afford a decent living, where government workers would work with pride and dignity and are paid regularly, where mother and child, the aged and elderly would receive good quality healthcare and where farmers will be kings by benefitting from the fruits of their labour.

“These are not mere election promises but responsible acts that are morally right, just, equitable and deserving by our people,” Adeleke said.
