Osun Re-run: Observer Group commends Residents, INEC, For Peaceful Conduct, Backs Supplementary Election

A Domestic Observer Group , Coalition of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Civil Society Groups has commended the electoral umpire for the successful and peaceful conduct of the Osun re-run election across seven polling units in the state.

The Convener, Mr Kali Victor , made gave the commendation during a post election press conference held on Thursday in Osogbo

Victor said, ” The electoral umpire had exhibited professionalism in it logistics and also mobilised and ensure timely arrival of election materials.

” There was heavy presence of various security personnel in and around the polling units to ensure that peace and calm atmosphere is maintained,” he said

According to him, there was an impressive voters turnout in the seven polling units where the election took place in the state.

He commended the people of Osun for their maturity , especially for putting behind the string of violence .

The Observer group recommended that those engaged in violence confrontations, negative critisms and misinformation of the public through false information be apprehended and made to face the law.

Victor, however, called on political parties to congratulate the winner of the Osun election in order to ensure the growth of democracy in the state.

He however said that the complementary elections was in accordance with election guidelines.

Speaking, Comrade Wale Adebisi, the Director, Ola-Oni Centre for Social and Research, Osogbo, Comrade Wale Adebisi, said the people of Osun have let their votes count by choosing who they felt can govern them.

Adebisi who commended electorate for conducting themselves peacefully during the election said international community should dispel rumour of electoral violence which they said was recorded across some polling units.

He added that the outgoing administration had done well in ensuring continuity which the present government would build upon.

He called on the entire state to support the incoming governor in the state.
