2019: Ondo REC, Akeju Seeks Support Of Stakeholders For Credible Election

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State, Dr.Rufus Akeju has solicited for the support of all traditional rulers in achieving a credible election in the state.

Akeju during a meeting and a familiarization tour with the traditional rulers at the Cocoa Conference Hall, Governor’s office in Akure, on Friday called on stakeholders in the state to give neccessary support to the commission in its bid to conduct free, fair and credible election come 2019.

Akeju said the aim of the meeting was to seek the blessing and collective support of the traditional rulers in order to achieve free, fair and credible elections in Ondo State in 2019 and beyond.

He further explained that his doors is opened for complaints and reasonable criticisms and advice by the monarchs and leaders in the state to enable the commission succeed in its mission.

The REC appealed to the monarchs to appeal to their subjects to approach the INEC offices nearer to them and collect their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) as they remains a major stakeholders that the commission sensitization on collection of PVCs could reach the grassroot level.

He also advised those who had attained the age 18 years to visit INEC office in local government areas close to them so as to register,saying this would enable them to perform their civic responsibility.

He described PVC as very important document for every voter, adding that even banks had started requesting for PVCs before opening accounts for customers.

The Chairman Ondo State Council of Obas,Olukare of Ikare-Akoko, Oba Momoh Akadiri assured the new REC that the council of Obas will support the commission in delivery a credible election in the state.

Oba Akadiri who was represented by Agbodi of Ikale Kingdom, Oba George Faduyile advised the commission to create more centres where every resident can easily register without delay.

Oba Faduyile said that there lot of people yet to be registered and putting all the figures together could be more than the already unclaimed card in INEC offices.

Also, Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Frederick Akinruntan lamented the cases of underaged being allowd to register for PVC in some parts of the country and urged the commission to look into the situation.
