An Akure Chief Magistrate court, sitting at Oke-Eda on Monday remanded a 27 year-old Seidu-Shakiru Adeyemi in Olokuta prison custody for allegedly killing his 25 year-old girlfriend, Khadijat, daughter of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo.
It would be recalled that Khadijat, a final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, was found dead in her boyfriend’s house, Adeyemi, on July 2, 2018 at No 17 Adegolarin layout, Aratunsin street Akure.
While arraigning Adeyemi before the court, the Police Prosecutor, Sargent Mary Adebayo, told the court that the accused person and others now at large conspired together to strangulate Khadijat to death and buried her in his room.
According to her, Sargent Adebayo however said that the accused person had committed punishable offence contrary to section 324 and 316 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
However, the plea of the accused person who was represented by Mrs Taiwo Gbadebo could not be taken due to the nature of the offence before the court.
In her ruling, the Presiding Magistrate, Victoria Bob-Manuel, ordered Adeyemi to be remanded in prison custody pending the receipt of legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Bob-Manuel also added that the original copy of the case file should be sent to the State Chief Registrar for safe keeping and adjourned the case till August 23, 2018 for legal advice.
