Osun Has Achieved Monumental Feats In Education-Omotunde-Young

The Osun State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Wasiu Kola Omotunde-Young has disclosed that the State has has achieved monumental feats in the field of education under the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola.

Addressing a press conference at Bola Ige House press centre, Omotunde Young decried what he referred to as the under reportage of these achievements in the media.

According to him, the performance of secondary school students in the 2018 West Africa Examination Council, WAEC has been marvelous, saying, the state has for the first time since its creation recorded 70 percent performance in Mathematics and 53.56 percent in English language as well as 80 percent in French among al the subjects offered in the 2018 WAEC.

He also disclosed that the state has perfected plans to begin the teaching of its students with indigenous language before the expiration of the tenure of Governor Rauf Aregbesola in November.

He said the policy tagged “Omoluabi Philosophy and Policy of education”, would be emulated by other states when it begin next month.

The Commissioner noted that 6.86 percent was the performance in 2007 in Osun, saying “for any thinking government, you will know that it required a complete reorganisation and restructuring.

He lambasted those that accused Aregbesola of destructing education system in Osun. He said “you needed to destruct to change a system that produce 6.86 percent.

“There is no rational observer that will not realise that discipline has increased in our schools in the last 8 years.

“Our school is to train students to be able to think and become a problem solver. No single government has touched education has have been done in the last eight years especially in terms of capacity and human development, and physical infrastructure, like this government.

“The schools that were built before Aregbesola did not have toilet.
We are confident that things will continue to improve.

He noted that more than 30,000 teachers have been trained by the present administration to improve teaching in public schools.

Reacting to the ranking of the state, the governor’s aide maintained that WAEC has never involved in ranking of states as being circulated on social media.
