Osun Election: PPC Candidate, Adewumi Pledges Support For Governor-elect, Calls For Inclusive Governance

,Prof. Ifeoluwa Adewumi, has promised to support the administration of the Governor-elect, Gboyega Oyetola.

Adewumi , who made the pledge in Osogbo during an interactive session with members of Osun state Correspondents’ Chapel, described Oyetola as a cool headed and intelligent person, disclosing that the governor -elect needs a technocrat like him(Adewumi) for speedy development.

The Varsity teacher, who polled 922 votes in the election, said his resolve to contribute his quotas to the yet to be inaugurated administration was hinged on his believe that government belongs to everybody and that it takes a collective effort to make the society and the country at large a better place.

Adewumi admitted that the election, which saw the emergence of Oyetola was not totally free, fair and credible, saying ” I am ready to work with anybody declared winner.”

The Consultant to United Nations on environment and Water Management added that not winning the election does not stop his party from supporting the government.

“We have no problem working with any declared winner, either we are in power or not does not stop us from supporting the government. The declared winner has the full support of our party, we do not discriminate whoever God has chosen.”

Adewumi who is also doubled as religious leader promised to be the” State spiritual Governor”, praying for its progress and to support the government with its various programmes freely.

He commended Oyetola for his readiness to run an inclusive government.

Adewumi however advised him to run a welfarist government that would guarantee abundant life to the people of Osun, adding that the prevailing economic situation in the state is not palatable.

He also urged him to read the mind of the people of Osun by embarking on prompt payment of salaries of workers and emoluments of retirees and scrap single uniform for students in public schools for easy identification .

Commending the efforts of the present administration led by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Adewunmi urged the incoming Governor to make workers’ salary and youth empowerment its priority.

Adewunmi who revealed that he was returning to the classroom and his business, added that he had sent his manifestos to the campaign team of the Governor-elect for possible implementation.

Preferring solution to the problem of vote buying and selling in Nigeria, the Professor of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Professor Ife Adewumi advocated a single term tenure for executive elective office as panacea to the menace of voters inducement currently ravaging the country body polity.

He expressed worry over the role voters inducement in various ways is playing to scuttle the emergence of credible people in governance.

According to him, a single term tenure will encourage good governance and discourage using government money to prosecute reelection into office for another term.

The retired professor who was the former chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife chapter noted that Bill Board politics should be deemphasized while robust public debate for candidates should be encouraged.
