Osun Assembly Passes Asset Management Agency Establishment Bill

State of Osun Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker, RT. Honourable Najeem Salam has passed the ‘State of Osun Asset Management Agency Establishment Bill 2018’.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the Bill which is an Executive Bill was read for the third time on Tuesday at a plenary presided over by the House’s Deputy Speaker, Hon. Akintunde Adegboye.

The bill was passed after a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Hon. Timothy Owoeye and seconded by the lawmaker representing Atakumosa East and West, Hon. Festus Komolafe.

After the passage of the Bill, the House directed its Clerk to forward it to the state’s governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for his assent. The House also urged the Clerk to work in conjunction with the Leader of the House to ensure the immediate return of the Bill to the Assembly within the stipulated period in the constitution.

Also, the ‘State of Osun Parks and Gardens Management Agency Bill 2017’ was read for the first time by the Leader, Hon. Owoeye and seconded by the member representing Ola Oluwa State Constituency, Hon. Ajibola Akinloye.

The Bill which seeks to create an agency that will administer, maintain and manage all designated parks and gardens in the state was welcomed by members of the parliament who jointly called for its speedy passage.

According to the content of the Bill, the agency will be structured to beautify the state, promote afforestation in all ramifications, mitigate against the effect of climate change, generate income for the state and also curb unemployment by engaging the youths.

It was however committed to the House Committees on Environment and Judiciary for second reading and report to the House on Monday, August 20, 2018.
