Nigeria@58: Akeredolu Pardons 17 Prisoners

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has pardoned 17 prisoners as part of the celebrations of the country’s 58th independence anniversary just as he has called on Nigerians to rise up and take their rightful place as the leading light of the black race.

Akeredolu who felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 58th Independent anniversary however urged Nigerians to continue to support the President’s initiates geared to lifting the country.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Segun Ajiboye which was made available to journalists in Akure at the weekend.

The statement said, “Akeredolu pardons the lucky beneficiaries of the prerogative of mercy in exercise of his right as the Akeredolu acted in accordance with the recommendation of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

The governor has said: “I, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State of Nigeria, in exercise of the power conferred on me by paragraph (d) of the sub-section (1) of Section 212, of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). I am pleased to extend my grace and mercy unto the said prisoners.

“My will and pleasure, therefore, is that  you discharge the said prisoners out of prison custody according and forthwith.”

The governor asks the citizens, especially, those who have to endeavour to share with those who do not have, describing Nigeria as the light of the black race, and urging the people to rise up to the challenge.
