Police Shot Kwara Poly Student at Bank

An Higher National Diploma (HND) II Civil Engineering, student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Mr. Bukola Ahmed Olugbon narrowly cheated death as a policeman (name withheld) attached to a commercial bank in Ilorin metropolis shot him.

Although, the reason for the shooting by trigger happy cop could not be ascertained at press time, it was however gathered that the ill-fated student was shot within the banking premises.

The gunshot victim, who is presently receiving medical attention at a private hospital in the State capital, told CityMirrorNews that the policeman shot him for no reason.

He explained that: “On Wednesday, I went to a bank with my father for a transaction. While my dad was on the queue, a security man attached to the bank came and accosted me and I told him that I
accompanied my father to the bank to collect my school fees.

“He then called a man that I later got to know that he is a policeman but he was not in uniform. The policeman asked me what was wrong between me and the security man and I told him that I came here with my dad for a banking transaction. But that the security man asked me to wait
outside for my dad”.

“The policeman, however, did not identify himself and was not in uniform for me to know at a first glance that he was a police man. So, I was going away when the policeman dragged me and slapped me. He drew me from the bank hall and shot me at my leg.

“When he shot me, I was devastated and was bleeding profusely. I did not know when and how I got to the police station at ‘B’ Division, Surulere, Ilorin. They then asked me at the police station what happened and I explained to them”, he added?

Olugbon who expressed disappointment on the police action, urged the federal government to probe the ugly incident with a view to bringing the policeman to justice aimed at serving as deterrent to
others.

He lamented that: “I am feeling great pains. This is my future, if I am not taking care of very well, this can affect my education. And my education is my future. I need good compensation from the police. I need nothing less than N6 million to take proper care of myself”.

The student also implored police authorities to foot his medical bill. Besides, the policeman that shot me should not go unpunished to serve as a deterrent to others.

The victim father, Alhaji Atiku Issa Olugbon from Ote, in Asa LGA, Kwara  State who confirmed the incident, wanted compensation for his son When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi said he has not been brief about the incident.

He, however, said there was no record of the allegation at the police station, saying that the command had commenced investigation on the incident.
