Drama in OSPOLY as SUG President, Secretary, others Suspended Over Fraud

The campus of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree on Tuesday stoodstill for hours as the Students’ Union President of the institution, Muhammad Surajudeen was unanimously suspended by the Students Representative Council (S.R.C) over alleged financial misconduct.

Other elected officers suspended by the institution’s SRC for illegal withdraw of the Union’s funds and complicity were the Financial Secretary, Adewale Quadri and the Auditor, Olabode Olaosun.

SRC which is the legislative arm of the Students’ Union also impeached the Vice President, Ganiyu Oseni and the Treasurer, Musa Jamiu as SRC relieved them of their constitutional duties in the Union.

This was contained in a memo issued and made available to CityMirrorNews by the leadership of the institution’s SRC just as copies of the statement were pasted around the school premises.

According to the memo, the Union President and the Financial Secretary were suspended for breaching the Union’s constitution by illegally withdrew #12,340 from the Union pulse without formal approval of the SRC.

The statement also has it that the duo were relieved of their constitutional responsibilities sequel to their failure to present a requisition letter to the House before accessing the Union’s treasury.

While the Treasurer and the Vice President of the Union were impeached for illegally obtained #45,800 from the account of the Union.

The duo were also impeached for persistently engaging in gross financial misconduct and for conspicuous engaged in a wide misappropriation of the Union’s funds.

The statement reads in parts: “this honourable House deems it fit to suspend and impeach some of the erring elected officers of the Students Union over what it is considered as obvious impeachable and suspendable offences committed by the affected officers.

“The President and the Financial Secretary have been found guilty by the House for breaching the Union’s constitution by illegally withdrawing #12,340 from the union pulse without the approval of the SRC.

“In the same vein, the Auditor was suspended for being incompetent, ineffective and unscrupulous and as well using his office to perpetrate fraudulent acts overtimes.

“The House unanimously impeached the Vice President and the Treasurer for making withdrawal of #25,800 and #20,000 respectively from the Union’s purse illegally.

“They were also impeached for claiming to have used the Union’s fund to recover the Union’s stolen mace and as well repair its bus.

Confirming and reacting to the development, the suspended President of the Union who described the suspension as “expensive legislative jokes”, however claimed not to have committed any offence worthy of suspension.

He said he had sent a letter to notify the S.R.C on the withdrawal of the money which the legislative arm of the Union suspended him for, argued that they (SRC) was only playing politics on the matter.

Meanwhile, all efforts to reach the S.R.C Speaker, Olakunle Afeez proved abortive as calls and text messages put across his mobile phone were neither received nor replied.
