The Suspect, Matthew Olusi was arrested while he hid the substance wrapped in polythene nylon and in his pant and clothes to beat the security at the gate lodge.

The Controller of Prison, Ogun State Command, Abolade Benson who confirmed the incident said the suspect was nabbed on Monday at the gate lodge following a tip off.

He said that Olusi’s action was to compromise the security in the Prison.

Benson however, said the suspect after interrogation confessed that he wanted to smuggle it into the Prisons for some of his friends who were inmates.

The State Controller said the suspect has been handed over to the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.

It will be recalled that a woman Fatima Balogun was arrested with a mobile phone last Month by the same Intelligence Squad in her attempt to smuggle the gadget into the prison.

The Prison Chief said the prohibited articles constitute danger to staff members and prisoners alike, adding that they remain inimical to discipline, reformation and rehabilitation strategy of the NPS.

Benson appealed to the general public to identify with the commitment of the NPS in eradicating drug abuse and other vices in and around prison formations in the state.

“Friends and visitors to Prison facilities where prisoners are kept should therefore desist from smuggling prohibited items capable of compromising security into the prison yard as the authority will not hesitate to take decisive action against violators.

“The Special Intelligence Unit formed by the present Controller General of Prisons Jaafaru Ahmed is living up to their billing and the Controller of Prisons is determined to leave no stone unturned in achieving the core mandate of NPS which are safe custody, reformation and rehabilitation of the inmates,” he said.
