— Donates Professorial Suite To UNIOSUN

A United States-based philanthropist, Peter Isola, yesterday urged the Federal Government to hand over its tertiary institutions to states for better management.

Isola stated this at the Ikire campus of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), during the inauguration of the professorial suite he donated to the school.

He advised the Federal Government to partner states or allow the state to fix tuition fees to provide a sound education for the students.

He said: “I don’t want to disclose the amount expended on the project so as not to discourage others who want to donate to the school.

However, I am talking to people who are capable and blessed to donate this kind of structure to do more for schools.
“The Federal government has too much in its hands.

“They should let go of some of the universities to the state. They have to return some of the institutions to the state and allow the state to fix the tuition and others. They can also partner.”

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of UNIOSUN, Yusuf Alli SAN, commended the Ile-Ife-born Isola, for his contribution to the ivory tower and enjoined management to take proper care of the infrastructure.

Alli who recalled that the foundation of the suite was laid in July, appreciated the donor for delivering it within six months as promised.

He charged philanthropists in the country to emulate the donor and support the university to have the suite in the remaining five campuses of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Clement Adebooye, stressed that the donor has proven that if corruption and red-tapism can be eradicated, construction of projects can be completed and handed over to client institutions within record time.

He encouraged other Nigerians and particularly indigenes of Osun State and Ikire land to emulate the act of kindness and philanthropy, saying “in whichever way we are capable, we should remember to always make some positive impact on our society.

“Any contribution made toward high-quality education of any country is immeasurable in monetary and material terms. Without sound education at all levels, our country will not be able to compete even with our African counterparts, let alone other continents of the world.

“Let us join hands to prepare a better, more productive, and more prosperous Nigeria for our children and grandchildren. This we can, and we must do by making donations to support our University,” Adebooye advised.
